چکیده

It is shown using experimental and numerical data that within the traditional inertial subrange defined by where the third order structure function is linear that the higher order structure function scaling exponents for longitudinal and transverse structure functions converge only over larger scales, r > rS, where rS has scaling intermediate between η and λ as a function of Rλ. Below these scales, scaling exponents cannot be determined for any of the structure functions without resorting to procedures such as extended self-similarity (ESS). With ESS, different longitudinal and transverse higher order exponents are obtained that are consistent with earlier results. The relationship of these statistics to derivative and pressure statistics, to turbulent structures and to length scales is discussed.

Using the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism, we study extra force and extra mass in a recently introduced noncompact Kaluza-Klein cosmological model. We examine the inertial 4D mass m 0 of the inflaton field on a 4D FRW bulk in two examples. We find that m 0 has a geometrical origin and antigravitational effects on a non inertial 4D bulk should be a consequence of the motion of the fifth coordinate wit...

The measurement and QCD analysis of neutral and charged current cross sections at HERA are presented. For the kinematic range of four-momentum transfer Q 2 between ≈ 1 GeV 2 and 30000 GeV 2 and Bjorken x between 0.0013 and 0.65 the data are compared to NLO QCD predictions. In dedicated NLO QCD analyses the extraction of the parton distribution functions of the proton is performed. Results for t...

A function on a discrete group is weakly combable if its discrete derivative with respect to a combing can be calculated by a finite state automaton. A weakly combable function is bicombable if it is Lipschitz in both the left and right invariant word metrics. Examples of bicombable functions on word-hyperbolic groups include (1) homomorphisms to Z (2) word length with respect to a finite gener...

If the topology of the universe is compact we show how it significantly changes our assessment of the naturalness of the observed structure of the universe and the likelihood of its present state of high isotropy and near flatness arising from generic initial conditions. We also identify the most general cosmological models with compact space. Interest has grown steadily in the possibility that ...
